The Dame Vera Lynn Trust for Children with Cerebral Palsy is a charity that needed a website to provide information about its activities in order to attract additional benefactors.
The website was designed to have specific accessibility attributes and to meet WAI Accessibility Level A conformance as a minimum. A number of accessibility features were used including:
- User-resizable text sizes
- Alternative style sheets including a basic plain text mode
- CSS-based layout (only one small table used)
- Access Keys for the main navigation links
Although, it might be imagined that this would cause extra work, in actual fact – there was hardly any extra required because the layout and CSS stylesheet use techniques that build the ‘accessibility factor’ in from the start.
