Jay talks jQuery

Posted on by Clive Walker in Web Development JavaScript

I wrote this post a while back. The content can still be relevant but the information I've linked to may not be available.

Last night I attended the seventh Sussex Geek Dinner (ably organised by Simon Harriyott once again) where Jay Gooby from Snipperoo gave a presentation about jQuery, which is a newish JavaScript library.

I have used jQuery myself but only in my usual, rather quick, way. Therefore, it was good to hear the pros and cons from someone who has used jQuery more extensively. In addition, Jay's presentation was written with jQuery just to show some of its capabilities. Neat.

The cons against using jQuery are that it is a new method and not everything has been absolutely tied down. My opinion is that if you need a lightweight easy-to-use JavaScript library for your website, jQuery is worth a try.

On the social side, it was good to meet some people from the previous Sussex Geek Dinner, and some new faces, including Mike D, Geoff A, David Stone, Gareth Rodger and others.

The only downside to the evening for me was the train journey home which was less successfully organised by a company, rather optimistically, called First Capital Connect. Suffice to say, I will be driving the next time I need to go to Brighton.
